About Jennifer Stark
Jennifer Stark was elected to Claremont City Council in 2018 with overwhelming support from voters. She served as Mayor Pro-tem in 2020 and Mayor of Claremont in 2021, during an especially dynamic time for the city and the world as we faced a global pandemic and other challenges. Jennifer rose to the challenge of governing remotely while remaining engaged, involved and available to the community. Although we faced a budget shortfall in 2018, today the City is in a much stronger financial position.
Raised and educated in Claremont, Jennifer has been inspired by the many family and friends whose own decades of community service have helped define Claremont’s unique character. These people inform Jennifer’s excitement about contributing to a thriving and progressing Claremont. She and her husband David, another lifetime Claremont resident, have done their best to instill these values in their three adult children.
While serving on the Claremont City Council for the past four years, Jennifer has continued to actively volunteer with a number of organizations and committees. Jennifer was appointed by Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis in 2021 to PASC, the governing board for the County’s In Home Supportive Services (IHSS). Jennifer serves as Secretary of the Board for the Six Basins Watermaster. She serves as the Chair of the Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee and Vice-Chair of the Water Policy Committee as well as the alternate for the Governing Board for the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments.
She also serves on the boards of Claremont Heritage and the Friends of the Claremont Library. She volunteers for Sustainable Claremont as a Certified Tree Steward and is a proud member of the League of Women Voters, the Democratic Club of Claremont, Kiwanis Club, and the University Club. She is exceptionally honored to be a founder of Claremont Canopy, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to help refugees thrive in their new communities.
Jennifer is dedicated to her family, her career, and her hometown. Serving on Claremont City Council has been a way to further that dedication, express her passion for service, and honor the responsibility she feels to give back to the city that has always been her home. Jennifer will continue to be a good steward of the solid foundation laid by past leaders and to build on it with the kinds of long-term future investments that have made Claremont a thriving and vibrant place to live and work.
Jennifer Stark knows that the broad range of challenges facing Claremont requires ongoing dedication, engagement and hard work from the community and City Council. Jennifer has proven her dedication to putting in that hard work. Whether you’ve lived here for months, years, or decades, Jennifer Stark wants Claremont to be a supportive and safe foundation for you to pursue the life you dream of.
